Our story
Although it may seem that we have only been here for some 30 years, the roots of what we do today go back to the generation of our great-great-grandparents. Bees have been with us since the beginning of time. What started decades ago as a hobby for our parents later took over the whole family. We have been helping with bee care, honey bottling and honey candle making since childhood. At the beginning of the business, when our mother quit her job and started to devote herself full time to the business, candles were made at our home on the stove in the kitchen and on the writing desk in our childhood room. The main bee tent was in my dad's parents' house near Bánovce nad Bebravou. Later, an old house near Zlaté Moravce was bought and gradually everything was moved there and the improvements to the factory are still being worked on.
The name of our farm comes from two Latin words - cera (wax) and mel (honey), which describe what we Grgula family have been doing for more than 30 years - beekeeping, processing of honey and bee products and production of candles from beeswax.
Our small family business consists of our parents (Zdenka and Dušan), who are mainly in charge of production and logistics, our son (Filip) and his partner (Peter) are in charge of the shop and everything around it, and our daughter (Alexandra) is in care of the e-shop.
Originally we only went to various fairs and markets. In 2011 we opened a brick-and-mortar shop in Piešt'any and in 2012 in Bratislava. Both stores operated together for a year, but after a year Piestany closed. At the moment, the brick-and-mortar store is in Bratislava on Michalska Street, where we have moved to, from premises in an alley a few metres away.
Everything we make and produce is made with love and with our own hands. All products are homemade, made with our own hands. And even if we don't make something ourselves, we make sure that this friendly maker of ours adheres to the handmade principle as well.
What parents started doing to provide a better life for us, their children, we, the children, are trying to take to the next level and show that even a hobby can be turned into something that can make people happier and more satisfied. So come and buzz in for hapiness!
